At Falcon Junior School, Frrench lessons are enjoyable and engaging. Children participate in a variety of speaking, listening, reading and writing activities which build their confidence and curiosity. Our teaching focuses on developing listening skills, understanding familiar language and communication through increasingly accurate pronounciation. Through songs, stories, games and conversations, children explore the patterns and sounds of the French language and learn to connect spoken language with written form.
Learning French encourages respect for different cultures, broadens understanding of the world and helps children make links and see differences between languages. By the end of Year 6, children will recognise the value of communicating in another language. They will be able to listen and respond to familiar spoken French, participate confidently in short conversations, read and understand simple texts, and write in sentences using familiar vocabulary and basic grammar with increasing accuracy.
