Falcon School

RSHE

At Falcon Junior School, we understand that RSHE is crucial to the development of the whole child. RSHE is underpinned by a clear set of embedded values and
principles that complement the school ethos, aims and values and encompasses
British values. We aim to give children the skills and knowledge that form the
building blocks of all positive relationships, supporting children from the start of their
education to grow into kind, caring adults who have respect for others and know how
to keep themselves and others safe. The Falcon Values are reflected in the
curriculum and in all aspects of school life. Children and young people need to know
how to be happy, healthy and safe, and how to manage their academic, personal
and social lives in a positive way in today’s environment. Our values and curriculum
ensure that our pupils are prepared to live safe, fulfilled and healthy lives.
We place a strong emphasis on mental wellbeing and want our pupils to be happy
and productive members of society. We focus on positivity and celebrate our values
and achievements widely including through assemblies, the award of “Falcon Flyers”
and a reward system.
We use resources from trusted sources including PATHS (Promoting Alternative
Thinking Strategies), the PSHE Association and Pol-Ed. The curriculum empowers
all children to develop the fundamental social and emotional learning skills which will
enable them to make positive choices throughout life. The PATHS programme for
schools is designed to facilitate the development of self-control, emotional
awareness and interpersonal problem-solving skills. The purpose of the PATHS
programme is to enhance the social competence and understanding of children,
while Pol-Ed develops children’s understanding, resilience, and willingness to
support each other and fully supports schools in keeping pupils safe.
RSHE is taught weekly by class teachers through a range of teaching
methodologies. The RSHE curriculum is enhanced and also delivered through
themed assemblies, topic days and cross curricular links.
