Music

At Falcon Junior School we make music an enjoyable learning experience. We encourage children to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we aim to build up the confidence of all children. Our teaching focuses on developing the children's ability to sing in tune and with other people. Through singing songs, children learn about the structure and organisation of music. As children get older, we expect them to maintain their concentration for longer and to listen to more extended pieces of music. Children develop descriptive skills in music lessons when learning about how music can represent feelings and emotions. We teach the disciplined skills of recognising pulse and pitch. We also teach the children how to work with others to compose music and perform for an audience.

By the end of Year 6, children will have developed a sincere love for Music and recognise the importance of music upon their wellbeing. They will have developed a cultural, moral and emotional understanding of music and its place within society. A Year 6 child will be able to critically engage with music, allowing them to listen with discrimination to music of all genres, traditions and time periods. With confidence and control, Year 6 children will be able to demonstrate a variety of skills including: singing in solo and unison, playing instruments with a degree of accuracy, consider the audience when performing, and display confidence in improvisation and composition.
