RSHE

At Falcon Junior School, we understand that RSHE is crucial to the development of the whole child. RSHE is underpinned by a clear set of embedded values and principles that complement the school ethos and encompass British values. The Falcon Values are reflected in the curriculum. Children and young people need to know how to be safe and healthy, and how to manage their academic, personal and social lives in a positive way in today’s environment. Our values and curriculum ensure that our pupils are prepared to live safe, fulfilled and healthy lives.

We place a strong emphasis on mental wellbeing and want our pupils to be happy, successful and productive members of society. We focus on positivity and celebrate our values and achievements widely including through assemblies, the award of “Falcon Flyers” and a reward system.

As part of the RSHE Curriculum, we follow the follow the PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) curriculum and the Norfolk RSE resource. The PATHS curriculum empowers all children to develop the fundamental social and emotional learning skills which will enable them to make positive choices throughout life. The PATHS programme for schools is designed to facilitate the development of self-control, emotional awareness and interpersonal problem-solving skills. The programme consists of a variety of lessons, and additional materials and charts. The purposes of the PATHS programme are to enhance the social competence and understanding of children, as well as to facilitate educational processes in the classroom, as shown in the curriculum overview.

RSHE is taught twice weekly by class teachers through a range of teaching methodologies, including and not limited to story-telling, drama, discussions and individual private reflection. The curriculum is complemented by themed assemblies, topic days and cross curricular links.
